I grew up an inquisitive child, seeking answers anytime I had something peak my my interest. Life seemed more straightforward back then—a science question could be answered with facts, a math problem solved with a calculator, and if I didn’t know a term, I could consult a dictionary. But eventually there came a day where I couldn’t find any readily available answers to the questions I had, when someone close to me passed due to suicide.
On the outside, everything seemed fine for them—there was laughter and jokes—but underneath, there was pain and suffering that others couldn’t see. This tragedy left me questioning why it happened and whether there was anything I could have done to prevent it. This experience planted a seed in me to delve deeper into understanding the human psyche. My passion for psychology grew from a desire to understand others—their joys, dreams, and pains—and to make a difference wherever possible.
This passion has taken me on a journey of growth and learning. I completed my psychology degree and worked as an Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) therapist, helping children with special needs achieve developmental milestones. Throughout these experiences, my focus remained on understanding people better and making a difference wherever I could.
Wanting to further enhance my ability to help, I pursued a Masters of Clinical Psychology, where I had the privilege of working with individuals from diverse backgrounds. I was fortunate to train and refine my skills as a clinical psychologist trainee at Relate Malaysia, where I learned to conduct comprehensive diagnostic assessments and deliver evidence-based interventions to help my clients flourish despite psychological challenges.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) have deeply influenced my work. In my sessions, my clients and I explore the meanings behind their thoughts and how these thoughts influence their actions and emotions. Together, we discover different ways to respond to these thoughts and feelings. CBT and ACT are my primary approaches in helping my clients take steps toward their values and goals.
Currently, I work as a Resiliency Coach in The Mind’s Employee Assistance Program (EAP) special project team. I conduct individual, group, and training sessions designed to foster resilient mindsets, helping clients cope with and bounce back from workplace or personal challenges.
