From a young age, I have always been drawn to the idea of helping others. Initially, with my passion for the sciences, I envisioned contributing through groundbreaking research that could make a meaningful impact on the world. However, it wasn't until high school, through my interest in Japanese animation and manga, that I stumbled upon the field of psychology. As I engaged with stories exploring themes of depression and anxiety, I became increasingly curious about the psychology behind them. This curiosity deepened over time, ultimately leading me to pursue a Bachelor's degree in Psychology and Cognitive Neuroscience.
Through my studies, I gained a deeper understanding of the brain’s complexities, but what resonated with me most was something beyond the science: the resilience of individuals. The stories that first sparked my interest weren’t just about struggles; they were about people pushing forward despite their obstacles. This realization fueled my passion for understanding the strength that allows individuals to persevere and, more importantly, how I could contribute to that process.
This desire to support others guided me toward the field of counselling, leading me to pursue a Master of Professional Counselling. During this time, I completed my internship with Humankind, where I had the opportunity to work with clients from diverse backgrounds, ranging from young children to adults, facing challenges such as depression, anxiety, stress, and career-related difficulties. Additionally, I was honored to serve as a team lead, mentoring new volunteers and guiding them in providing mental health support for children reaching out to the Buddy Bear child helpline.
My primary approach in counselling integrates Person-Centred Therapy (PCT) and Solution-Focused Therapy (SFT). I believe that everyone has the capacity for change, and fostering that change begins with creating a space where individuals feel truly comfortable being themselves. When people are able to embrace their authentic selves, they are better equipped to discover personalized solutions to their struggles, empowering them to take meaningful steps forward.
Ultimately, I see counselling as a journey, one that allows us to better understand ourselves and uncover the strength we already have to navigate life’s challenges. Taking the first step can feel daunting, but you don’t have to do it alone. Whether you’re feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or simply looking for guidance, I’m here to walk alongside you.
