My passion for psychology was first ignited in my teenage years when I experienced and witnessed the impact of cyberbullying. This personal experience led me to advocate for mental health awareness and develop a deeper understanding of how individuals navigate their personal struggles. My curiosity about individual differences in coping mechanisms and resilience further solidified my commitment to the field. To extend my advocacy efforts, I initiated #cybercancelled, a passion project aimed at addressing and preventing cyberbullying. This incident that occurred during my teenage years compelled me to pursue a degree in Psychology as I was keen on understanding how the human mind works.
During the course of my degree, I volunteered with AIESEC Malaysia under the Get Fit Get Inclusive project aimed at reducing inequalities and promoting inclusivity. Throughout my time as a volunteer, I learned about the struggles faced by individuals with special needs and the underprivileged community. This hands-on experience was key in allowing me to understand the importance of behavioural and psychological interventions. I’ve also realized how important it is to stand alongside those who don’t always have the support they need, and my heart is drawn to serving them in any way I can.
After completing my undergraduate degree, I chose to pursue a Master’s in Clinical Psychology to further solidify my commitment to this career path and deepen my understanding of the field, with the goal of helping and being of service to others. Throughout my clinical training, I have gained extensive experience working with diverse populations across various settings. Initially, I worked with Heart Psychological Services, where I was involved in providing psychological assessments and interventions, primarily serving a university population. I then gained experience at Hospital Universiti Malaysia Sabah, where I had the opportunity to work with a diverse range of clients, from children as young as six to adults up to 56 years old, across various socio-economic backgrounds. As part of our outreach efforts, I traveled to multiple areas in Sabah, including Kota Kinabalu, Kudat, and Tamparuli, to extend services to underserved communities. Following that, I joined Pusat Pakar Psikologi JiwaDamai, where I expanded my clinical experience in a private center setting. During my time there, I also participated in mental health screenings in schools and served as a speaker for online mental health workshops. During this time I’ve had the experience of dealing with clients presenting symptoms of depression, anxiety, autism, ADHD, and personality disorders.
My primary therapeutic approach is grounded in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), through which I apply evidence-based techniques tailored to client needs. However, I am flexible in utilizing other modalities should it fit a client’s needs better.
Currently, I am a Wellness Coach under the Employee Assistance program (EAP) for The Mind’s corporate clients. I conduct individual, group and training for clients with a main focus on building resiliency to cope with personal and workplace challenges.
As a therapist, I deeply value creating a space where clients feel truly seen, heard, and accepted just as they are. My hope is to walk alongside each client with compassion and curiosity, offering gentle support as they navigate their inner world. I aim to help clients build their own personalized toolbox, filled with meaningful skills, strategies, and resources they can draw on during life’s difficult moments. Together, I aim to help clients gently untangle overwhelming thoughts, make sense of emotions, and reconnect with their inner strengths that have always been there. Healing is a process, and I believe in taking it one step at a time, at a pace that feels safe and empowering.
