Growing up with a disabled sibling has inevitably led me to view the world a little differently than most people. I was taught to observe, understand and persevere with my surroundings from an early age. Over time, I developed a sense of keenness and curiosity to understand others and the intricate processes that drive them to act or think the way they do. The countless encounters I had with different people and surroundings made me realize how important one's belief in themselves and their support system is in withstanding the daily struggles they are bound to face.
Although it was not as clear as day then, I figured my career pathway would revolve around health awareness and helping people. Currently I proudly hold a Bachelor's of Psychology with Honors, majoring in Child and Family Psychology from Universiti Malaysia Sabah. Throughout my time there, I immersed myself in a myriad of programs and events, engaging with a culturally rich and diverse population on multiple scales.
Continuing my educational journey, I pursued a Master's degree in Clinical Psychology at Universiti Sains Malaysia. The pinnacle of my academic career was the opportunity to undertake a rigorous year-long clinical practicum at Hospital Universiti Sains Malaysia. Here, I worked closely with multidisciplinary teams of medical professionals to help patients from different clinics such as the psychology, psychiatric and pediatric clinics.
Specifically, I had the opportunity to work with patients grappling with a spectrum of mental health disorders from various backgrounds. At the clinic, I have conducted an assortment of psychological assessments and intervention sessions for a variety of diagnosis including mood, anxiety, personality and neurodevelopmental disorders. My main therapeutic approaches are Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), with flexibility to incorporate other evidence-based modalities when necessary.
Presently, I hold the role of Resiliency Coach under The Mind's Special Project’s Team. My commitment includes conducting both group and individual therapy and coaching sessions on a regular schedule as well as whenever necessary.
At the most basic foundation, I have always stood by my mission to be there for people and have them acknowledge their right to indulge in each of their own experiences, so long as they have the proper tools and willpower for it. I stand ready to bridge the gap in mental health care with a focus on inclusivity and personalized support for people in need.
