Since choosing a path in psychology, family and friends have regularly asked me, why do it? It’s a fair question I suppose, especially since psychology is still largely unknown. But it is that very reason which has driven my passion to complete my Masters in Clinical Psychology as I aim to raise mental health awareness and break the taboo of seeking help.
My interest in Psychology began when I was 14. I have had opportunities to work with my high school counselor, becoming the vice president for both the counseling club and peer counselling program in high school. My initial interest was further propelled when I was doing my Degree in Psychology in UCSI University. Eager to immerse myself in the field as much as possible, I became an active member in peer support society and psychology club in university.
I have received trainings from SOLS Health, Dignity for Children Foundation, Center for Psycho- logical and Counselling Services (HELP University) and The Mind Psychological Services and Training. My main therapeutic orientation is Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), but I have also used techniques from Adlerian, Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Dialetical Behav- ior Therapy (DBT) under several experienced supervisors. In addition, I am professionally trained to conduct a number of integrative assessments with both adults and children, and also to provide workshops and outreach programs to different populations. Aligned with these experiences, I have worked with people from the age of 4 years to 71 years on a myriad of psychological, behavioural and developmental disorders.
I am an inquisitive person by nature, and I have had the opportunity to explore different aspects of life. I remember pushing myself to enter a beauty pageant just to experience the lifestyle of enter- tainers. Other than that, I have also taken up the opportunity offered by my university to teach and stay in China alone for five months because I wanted to experience life in a foreign country. Re- markably, stepping out of my comfort zone has given me opportunities to work with people from different countries, backgrounds and beliefs. Interacting with different types of people has allowed me to nurture my ability to communicate with almost anyone.
I believe that it is important to realise that none of us can carry the world on our shoulders and we all need help from time to time. For anyone to reach out and ask for help is a huge step. I look for- ward to be able to work through conflicts that you may face with you and we can do so at a pace that you are comfortable with. I believe and appreciate the power of therapy. I aim to provide a safe and confidential space, and my practice will focus on putting your unique set of strengths together to help you in achieving the goals set in therapy.
