Hello everyone!
Sir Post-A-Lot here, wishing all of you a good-didlli morning! Hope you’re doing well in whatever corner of the world that you all are in.
Whilst scouring this wonderful thing called the World Wide Web, I stumbled upon this fascinating video by this chap called TED. I have no idea who TED is, but it would appear that he has taken it on himself to record video upon video of some of the most inspiring speakers around. No idea who you are TED, but good on you buddy!
One of the videos that really caught my attention, was this one given by a Dr. Guy Winch, and he talks about how we can practice Emotional First Aid. What he shares was certainly thought provoking, urging the audience to wonder why it is that we spend so much time taking care of ourselves physically, but not so mentally. He gives us a brilliant analogy; if we wouldn’t ask someone with a broken leg to “walk it off, it’s just a leg”, why would we ask someone who’s depressed to “just get over it, it’s all in your head”.
Dr. Guy brings up many brilliant points, but ultimately, the message that he tries to deliver is the fact that our mental health is an integral part of our overall well-being. We do so much to ensure that physically, our bodies are kept in the best condition possible. He encourages us to expand this grooming of ours to our mental health as well. It’s as simple as being kind to ourselves, not beating ourselves up when our chips are already down. The next time you feel down in the dumps, ask yourself this simple question, “What would you tell your best friend or loved one if they were in your shoes”.
Right, so clickety clack on the video above and enjoy the magnificent musings of Dr. Guy Winch. Here’s to a fantastic week ahead! Tally-ho!
