Therapy is something that’s still relatively new, and only in recent times has it started becoming a part of our public consciousness. And as we, as a society start to incorporate mental health and therapy into our collective lives, it’s absolutely important for you to be able to choose a therapist that jives well with you.
In many ways, seeing a therapist is like choosing a friend or partner to be with. Whilst therapy is grounded in a science, and we use evidence based practices to help our clients, one of the most fundamental mechanisms of change that happens in the therapy room, is the relationship and rapport between a therapist and a client. Studies suggest that at times, close to half the therapeutic effect of therapy comes from this very same relationship.
Which makes it so incredibly important that you find someone who fits you well! In this podcast, our Clinical Psychologist Dr Joel Low speaks (some say rant!) about what to look out for in your therapist! So if you’re keen on giving therapy a go, and you’re not sure where to begin, this might be a start!
Happy listening!
